EVENT DETAILS
Climathon In New York!

Climathon 2021 in New York is a hybrid format program aimed to catalyze new companies that can address climate change by reducing the carbon footprint of cities - especially considering buildings are responsible for 70% of greenhouse gas emissions in New York. From September 30th - October 11th, participants will have an opportunity to engage in activities that will give them the tools they need to form teams & hack out new business models.

The program will begin with an optional, in-person launch & world-cafe event that will bring stakeholders, innovators & others passionate about addressing climate change together for exchange & deliberate the challenge topic. Then over the next 5 days, innovators will participate in a hybrid, 5 day academy offering hands-on experience to validate ideas, build business models, & build teams. The best performing teams will then participate in a 3 day hack-lab before pitching to a panel of judges that will determine the winners. The winning team will be sent to Dubai for support via Ideanco's incubation program!

QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY
Entrepreneurs & aspiring entrepreneurs of any age, ready to learn & convert their passion of tackling climate change to action through innovation. Recent graduates, entrepreneurs, second career.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Cities are the main source of air pollution & GHG emissions (CO2). How do we prepare cities such as New York to evolve to meet the targets set by the government to reduce emissions?

Cities consume over two-thirds of the world's energy & account for more than 70% of global CO2 emissions & other criteria pollutants. Cities are part of the problem but are also well-positioned to play a leadership role in finding & implementing innovative solutions to reduce emissions. Under the Paris Agreement, cities & governments set up targets aiming at reducing greenhouse emissions & consequently air pollutants, but the implementation of actions is slower than what is needed by the world.

We will be asking you to work together:

How can we facilitate the shift to low-emission technologies? How can we help New Yorkers use new technologies to accelerate the transition? How can we support communities & advocate for civil society to steer away from business as usual approaches? How can we make change happen fast & efficiently?
