**Can we count you in?**
The 2010 census missed more than 10% of all children under age 5 in the U.S. When we miss young children in the census, it has serious consequences for them, their families, their communities & our nation with many of those consequences lasting for at least 10 years. With the 2020 census fast approaching, it is time to make sure we count all our children.
That's why we're calling all content creators to join forces with Partnership for America's Children & the Census Open Innovation Labs for the nation's first-ever creative workshop to develop the content needed to reach families with kids under five leading up to the 2020 Census.
Over the course of five informative & festive hours, well learn about the importance of the kids undercount, connect with people passionate about Census 2020, & collaboratively generate digital media & compelling messages that spread awareness about the the 2020 count within families with kids under five.

The next Census count is coming up in 2020.
So whats the big deal?
We know the importance of voting & the impacts it has on our nation every election day. But what about the Decennial Census? The count of United States population sets our countrys trajectory for the next decade, determining congressional apportionment (the number of seats each state gets in the House of Representatives), redistricting, & how the allocation of close to $700 billion dollars is annually distributed annually to cities across the nation.
People of color, immigrants, LGBTQ people, people experiencing homelessness, rural communities, people with low incomes, renters, single- parent households, people with limited English proficiency, & young children are overwhelmingly undercounted in the Census. But we can help change that.
It's important.
POWER - The Census results directly affect issues of democracy, such as redrawing district lines & distributing representative seats. Yet we also know that many marginalized groups & underrepresented minorities have been historically undercounted.
MONEY - Not participating in the Census means less funding for communities, resulting in fewer dollars for social services for each state, including Medicaid, Section 8 housing, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), & WIC.
