DataKind Speaker: Phil Azar
Summary from DataKind:
With the large-scale distribution of COVID-19 vaccines underway, strategies are needed to ensure trust & acceptance for the vaccines & those who deliver them. While social media platforms are known to house much of the conversation around COVID-19 & vaccines, Community partners may not have the available data science & analytics capabilities to make sense of all the available data related to COVID-19 vaccine distribution, trust, & usage, & use this knowledge to inform outreach & education efforts in their communities. Using multiple open data platforms, volunteers will analyze trends in public sentiment regarding COVID-19 & the COVID-19 vaccine in relation to information on government distribution plans, & local uptake & perceptions about & previous experiences receiving government support or accessing healthcare services. This exploration will allow for the assessment of open data for real-time monitoring of vaccine trust & provide another resource for policymakers & implementers looking to increase vaccine literacy & acceptance in their communities.
Come hear our speaker, Phil Azar, from DataKind. Phil is a data scientist who believes statistics should be simplified & analytics be accessible. Prior to DataKind, he worked as a data scientist for a large retailer, a research analyst for a media company & a math teacher. A lifelong learner, he keeps up with the latest in machine learning, data science & civic tech. When not trying to solve the world's pressing problems with data, Phil enjoys running, cooking & writing.
