Details
We are excited to kick-off the 2023 season of the NYC Robotics Meetup with a return to Newlab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Special thanks to our sponsors, Viam & Alley Robotics Ventures.
The software side of robotics shouldn't slow you down. Viam is a modern alternative that makes it easier to go from paper, to prototype, to production, to scale-all from a single platform. Try Viam today with zero hardware setup by taking over a rover in their robotics lab & review Viam documentation for ideas. What are you going to build?

Alley Robotics Ventures (ARV) is an early stage venture capital firm investing in amazing teams solving the world's problems through robotics & automation. ARV is based in Boston & NYC & are inspired by the AlleyCorp venture fund & incubator. ARV is proud to count Kevin Ryan & Eliot Horowitz as our initial limited partners. Their team members are also advisors at AlleyCorp.
Additional thanks to our event supporters Newlab, informal, & to YOU, for your interest in supporting & growing the robotics community in New York.

Agenda:
6:00-6:20 - Meet & Greet / Networking
6:25-6:35 - Introduction & Welcome
6:40-7:00 - Jeffrey Laut, Founder & CEO, Manifold Robotics
Jeffrey has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from NYU Tandon School of Engineering, with research interests in robotics, control systems, & human-machine interaction. At Manifold Robotics, he leads the development of sensing hardware & control algorithms for enabling automated & long-range drone flight for the power utility sector.
Manifold Robotics is developing a specialized drone payload that can sense the electromagnetic fields (EMF) naturally emitted from power transmission lines, & use this data to estimate its position relative to the transmission line. By effectively turning transmission lines into navigation beacons, this technology enables safe & scalable drone operations for power utilities performing inspections.
7:05-7:25 - Ido Gur, Co-Founder & CEO, Easy Aerial
Ido Gur has been with EA for 6 years. Prior to Easy Aerial, Ido has over 13 years of engineering & management experience within the Israeli Air Force including Head of the Performance & Stability Group & Head of Advanced UAV group. Ido is a Major (Res.) in the Israeli Air Force.
Easy Aerial is a leading provider of autonomous drone-based monitoring solutions for commercial, government, & military applications. Developed & manufactured in the United States, Easy Aerial's free-flight & tethered drone-in-a-box systems are fully autonomous, modular, portable, rugged, & all weather capable. They are deployed worldwide for mission-critical applications such as perimeter & border security, event monitoring, emergency response, & industrial inspection. Easy Aerial is headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, with regional offices in Tel-Aviv, Israel, & Belgrade, Serbia.
7:30-7:50 - Andy Strulc, Founder & CEO, Renovate Robotics
Andy has 10+ years of experience in robotics, machine design, & automation. He has worked on aerospace manufacturing robots, restaurant automation, & composite 3D printing.
Renovate Robotics is tackling problems at the intersection of climate change & the labor shortages, beginning with roofing.
The team at Renovate is building a robotic system that automatically installs shingles & solar panels on sloped roofs. The robot lets contractors double their productivity to keep up with the growing backlog of projects. Andy will talk about roofing as a case study for how robotics can help with climate adaptation & mitigation.
7:50-8:00+ - Closing remarks, Lightning Talks*, community announcements, networking
Food & Drinks to be provided.
*Lightning Talks allow anyone to present 1 slide & speak on stage for 2 minutes. Slides must be provided in advance as a PDF or Google Slide & emailed to nycrobots@gmail.com.
