Fintech sounds like a new term, but financial technology has been around 65 years- ATMs were financial technology, but fintech rather than Fintech. In 2015, a piece inAmerican Banker talked of post-apocalypticworld of apps & bots, community banks lay in ruin, fintechs come & go, & megabanks dot the vast desert wasteland. That same year Chris Skinner wrote
Fintech is a new market. It is 21st century finance. It is the new form of banking, & is related but very different to the old form. Some of the old form players will metamorphose into these new digital fintech players. Some of the new players will take over the markets of the old incumbents
A mere 3 years later Jim Marous wrote a piece with the title Banking + Fintech Collaboration: More Important Than Ever
