With our skyscrapers, congested streets & limited pockets of green space, New York City might not fit your typical image of a sustainability hub. However, it's actually this dense urban landscape that provides a living laboratory for testing & implementing sustainable initiatives, from green infrastructure projects to renewable energy innovations.
On March 7, join the Downtown Alliance for a discussion with the innovative companies who are developing products, systems & community efforts to make NYC a model for sustainable urban development. You'll learn about the progress these organizations have already made & their goals for the future, as well as how you can get involved in the movement.

Marisa DeDominicis has devoted over 40 years to building community in NYC & promoting people to adopt & adapt to sustainable practices. A Lower East Side resident, she has three lovely children: Kali, Lucca, & Selene. Two of Marisa's three beautiful children graduated from Millennium High School. Marisa has a BA in Communications from Emerson College, Ma. She worked for the Trust for Public Land as a project manager for 18 years. In 2009, Marisa co-founded Earth Matter with Charlie Bayrer & Kendall Morrison. Since then, she joyfully wakes up daily to nurture the growth of the Compost Learning Center, & closing the loop on Governors Island with dedicated staff & thousands of annual visitors & volunteers. Earth Matter hosts schools & corporations & partners with many Downtown organizations to grow our sustainability practices & steward our green spaces.
Lenore Kantor is a transformational business coach for conscious high achieving leaders, founders & soulpreneurs seeking more authenticity & impact. She empowers leaders to redefine growth, seek fulfillment, navigate change & make a positive impact in the world by imagining new possibilities for a more sustainable future. Lenore's holistic multi-disciplinary approach has evolved over 30+ years leading Growth Warrior & as a former corporate marketing executive & combines business strategy, product launch, branding & communications expertise with leadership development & intuitive insight. Warrie Price is President of The Battery Conservancy, an organization she founded in 1994, to design & revitalize The Battery's 25 waterfront acres. She built partnerships with city, state, & federal agencies & raised more than $180M in public & private support to achieve these goals.
For over 25 years Warrie commissioned talented designers to transform a neglected park into a culturally rich gathering place & an internationally renowned destination for its millions of annual visitors. Under her leadership, a horticultural masterplan was conceived & implemented; it includes 240,000 square feet of perennial gardens, a 1-acre urban farm, a 7-acre woodland, the SeaGlass Carousel, a garden bikeway, & a 1.5-acre playground built to flood & recover.
Previously, Warrie served on the Manhattan Borough President's Waterfront Taskforce. As Chair of Manhattan's Community Board #8, she was instrumental in creating new waterfront access along the East River & worked to renovate six parks on the Upper East Side. She has served on the boards of the Boston University Medical Center, Scenic Hudson, & was a founding director of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, created to champion the use of native plants along public access ways & in urban landscapes.
Warrie began her career in government in the U.S. Foreign Service as Assistant Cultural Attach in Santiago, Chile. She was awarded a fellowship from the Kennedy School at Harvard University, where she received a Master of Public Administration & was then recruited to New York to work in the Mayor's Office of Management & Budget. Her career achievements have been recognized by the following awards: American Society of Landscape Architecture Honorary Degree, Municipal Art Society Evangeline Blashfield Award, NYC Arts Commission Bedrock Award of Achievement, The Longhouse Preserve Leadership Award, & Audubon's Women in Conservation Rachel Carson Award.
Gail Tierney is the Senior Corporate Volunteer Coordinator for Billion Oyster Project. Prior to that, they come from a background in comedy, eco-theatre, community organizing, peace & conflict studies, disability justice, & small-scale regenerative agriculture. With their own multi-disciplinary approach to climate work, Gail values hearing stories from people in all different disciplines. They think that laughter is the secret sauce, that squirrels know something we should really decipher, & that an uncomfortable, failure-filled, & collectively transformative future is well within our reach. Also, very importantly, seaweed is the coolest, & that's a stone cold fact.
