Getting your first PM job is hard & the road can be long & windy. There's no right way to do it but the best way is typically to try to transition within a company by getting PM-like experience solving customer problems. I started my career as a financial analyst at a car company & am now a PM at an EdTech company.
There aren't inherent skills to being a Product Manager - some can be learned & others come with experience. The right mix of skills & knowledge can set you up for success, & PM skills can be developed in any position. Being able to succinctly communicate the right story, with data to back it up, will be a critical component of the job.
