This month we are excited to be hosted by Google, with two great talks from members of the Flutter community!

Making the Switch from Native to Flutter, by Duff Hughes
Native mobile development is commonly thought of as the gold standard for apps. However, for a small startup developing in two separate codebases presents many challenges & can result in a poor user experience. Such was the case for Sea Trials, a leading study platform for maritime industry licensing that has over 16,000 users. After making the switch to Flutter, reviews on the Play Store went from 3.8 to 4.8 stars in less than a year. Founder Duff Hughes will walk you through his journey of making the switch to Flutter & why it can be well worth it for a small tech startup.

Duff Hughes is the owner & lead coder for his company Mariner License Prep. This company & its study platform, Sea Trials, has produced one of the leading study apps for obtaining licenses to work in the maritime industry. Duff has worked with Flutter for over 2 years & in mobile development for over 4 years. His background is originally in marine engineering where he worked on ships as a licensed engineer before deciding to build a business to help others obtain the necessary licenses to work on these very ships.

How to Find & Fix Memory Leaks in Dart
Dart may be a garbage-collected language, but that doesn't mean that memory leaks can't happen. Memory leaks put unnecessary pressure on the VM & can be difficult to debug. We will discuss common cases that result in memory leaks, & how to use the Memory View DevTool to find them.

Yehuda Noiman is the CTO of PLAY.FUN & a Flutter expert by FID (official Flutter Israel Developers Community). He has worked with Flutter on IOT devices, Linux, converting native apps, & more. He also advises companies on how to convert big projects to Flutter or to start from scratch.

Food & drink will be served, courtesy of Google.
