Tom Schenk Jr. is a researcher & author on applying technology, data, & analytics to make better decisions. Hes currently the director of analytics at KPMG where he leads the smart city & government analytics practice. Hes authored several publications, including a book on data visualization, book chapters on education research, & academic articles on a variety of subjects. Tom has previously served as Chief Data Officer for the City of Chicago, led education research for the State of Iowa, & has held a variety of positions within academia. Tom is the co-founder of the Civic Analytics Network at Harvard Universitys Ash Center for Democratic Governance & Innovation. He is also the current co-organizer of the Chicago Data Visualization Group. His work has been featured in The Economist & Wall Street Journal while hes been featured in television programs on PBS NewsHour & National Geographic Channel.

Tom will give his talk "Will you be better off in a Smart City?" at the Demystifying Data Science Conference on Wednesday, July 31st at 1:30pm ET.

Smart cities are looking to incorporate data & technology that improve the quality of life for their residents & help governments be more efficient.
