Join Anew & Anthem of us for a very special screening & discussion of the student-led movement to accurately teach our country's history.
Teaching America honors the high school students & teachers who join forces to stand up for African-American studies, after the state of Arkansas threatens to shut their classes down. The in-classroom testimony of a movement sparked by the unflinching desire to learn that crosses boundaries & generations in a time of intentional efforts to segregate & divide & to forcibly erase Americas history, culture, & humanity.
The film provides a lens & a point of intervention into the larger attacks on education & learning as a core chapter in the authoritarian playbook. There is a clear throughline between the efforts to limit & erase the teaching of history; the banning of books, curriculum & classes; the intentional push to segregate & divide; & the limitations being placed on free & open inquiry, expression, & teaching in K-12 & higher education.
The screening will start at 5:30pm, followed by a conversation.
