A live finalist showcase for the online Kaggle hackathon exploring AI, comedy, audience reaction, & creative tools with Gemma.
Humor Genome NYC is a Build with Gemma community hackathon where builders, comedians, designers, researchers, writers, & curious people explore what open models can do with humor.
Why humor? Because humor is one of the hardest tests of language intelligence. A joke is not just text. It depends on timing, surprise, shared context, ambiguity, culture, tone, social risk, audience expectation, & what the model chooses not to say. When AI gets humor wrong, the failure is often revealing. It exposes where the model misses human context.
You do not need to build on-site. Submit online through Kaggle, & selected finalists may be invited to present live demos in New York City on July 25.
Join us for creative AI demos, project presentations, & a community gathering around humor, open models, & human-AI collaboration.
Project directions include comedy tools, humor understanding, audience/evaluation systems, creative writing tools, agents, datasets, & interactive demos.
Tentative schedule: 2:00 PM doors open / networking, 2:30 PM opening remarks, 2:40 PM finalist demos, 3:45 PM judge feedback, 4:15 PM recognition & closing, 4:30 PM optional networking.
