Being an artist is perpetually hard & comes at huge financial risk. Worse off much of the work they do & the things they create financially benefit others more than it does themselves. Is there a better way for artists to sustain themselves
This week's interactive community conversation explores the ideas that allow us to trace a path from living as an artist inside the fiat economy to building Bitcoin-native patronage, & asks what happens to creativity as we move from industrial-age arts systems into an information age with digitized sound money.
OUR FACILITATOR
Dion Wilson is a former professional ballet dancer with sixteen years on company stages & twenty-five years in the industry, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Philadanco, & Disney's The Lion King. He is a teacher, personal trainer, & the creator of the fitness class DBarre. He founded Bitcoin for the Arts, a New York 501(c)(3) building Bitcoin-native patronage to support creators across visual arts, theater, dance, music, writing, storytelling, & film.

FORMAT
Our format explores ideas together through our diverse backgrounds, while building relationships & community through the process. We want you to talk to each other, instead of just being talked at.
5:30PM - Settle in, grab a drink & some food at the bar, & meet some new people before we start our event.
6:00PM - Our conversation begins with our facilitator presenting the knowledge & context for the conversation along the way. The conversation between attendees will explore from surface level understandings, to deep implications & future iterations.
7:30PM - Meet & connect with new people, catch up with people you haven't seen in a while, discover all the different ways you overlap. And then just hang out, grab a drink, play some pool or ping pong! Or stay for the band afterwards!
Our desire is to be the antithesis of NYC's corporate panel & transactional networking culture. We aim to create a vibrant idea & build space in NYC that focuses on the passion & values beyond the money & the hustle.

ABOUT COHORT
Cohort is a space & home for ideas, & the people who think about them, create new ones, & build things from them. Many of us are founders, builders, artists, researchers, & their supporters here in NYC.
Our goal is to turn the city into a campus after college.
We hold idea & discussion events, coworking events for support & accountability for those building & creating things, & pure social events build genuine relationships & community.
