In this class you will learn about the structure of & how to construct three main financialstatements(Income Statement, Balance Sheet & Cash Flow Statement), determine key performance metrics, & how to perform break-even analysis (identifying the point at which your company becomes profitable).
October 17, 6:00pm - 8:00pm Class 2:Valuation Models & Financial Modeling Basics.
In this class you will learn eight valuation methods predominantly used to value early-stage startups, both quantitative & qualitative. We will also cover the cost of capital, how to determine the terminal (exit) value of your company & how to create & maintain your capitalization table. The models covered are The Venture Capital Method, The Discounted Cash Flow Method, The Chicago Method, The Dave Berkus Scorecard,Bill Payne's Scorecard,The Risk Factor Summation Model, The Replacement /All-In Method, andThe Rule of Three.
We will also discuss financial modeling basics - specifically how to model price & quantity for a company with no financial history.
October 22, 6:00pm - 8:00pmClass 3A:Financial Modeling of Product Startups: 8 Distribution Channels.
In this class you will learn how to model eight business models for early-stage product startups. We will discuss which assumptions are needed for each business model, how to determine values for those assumptions & how to translate your launch strategy into a financial forecast. The channels covered are e-commerce, brick & mortar, events, sales reps, international & domestic distributors, big box retailers, & joint ventures.
October 29, 6:00pm - 8:00pmClass 4A:A Case Study: Modeling & Valuing an Early-Stage Product Startup.
In this class you will learn how to build a financial model start to finish from a given set of assumptions. This course combines everything you learned in the first three courses in one comprehensive example.
We cover four distribution channels & four go-to-market strategies.
You can use the resulting financial model to build your own. It is easily customizable & is complete. The financial model will containRevenue Projections, Salaries, Fixed Costs, P&L, Fixed Asset Projections, Working Capital Projections, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement, Free Cash Flow & Valuation, Funding Needs, Customer Acquisition Costs, Break-Even Analysis, & Financial Summary.

In this class you will learn about three main financing vehicles (equity, SAFE & convertible debt), how they are structured, their advantages & disadvantages & how to choose the best vehicle for you. You will also learn how to evaluate accelerators, how to look for investors & what other terms you should be negotiating (i.e. control rights, information rights, anti-dilution, etc.)
