EVENT DETAILS
AI brings hope for disrupting drug discovery. Also, it brings a lot of hype, as if no lessons were learnt from previous winters in both AI & computer-assisted drug discovery.
In this meeting, we will discuss these hopes & hypes.

The Juniper bar is a suitableplace for this discussion. Located near Penn Station,it's
easily accessible from New York, New Jersey & Connecticut, a vibrant area in Pharma & AI.

I blogged about specific examples of hype here:

AI in drug discovery is overhyped: examples from AstraZeneca, Harvard, Stanford & Insilico Medicine https://medium.com/the-ai-lab/artificial-intelligence-in-drug-discovery-is-overhyped-examples-from-astrazeneca-harvard-315d69a7f863

(this post was covered by Pharma blogger Derek Lowe:https://blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/2018/01/10/objections-to-some-drug-discovery-ai)

"MIT paper in machine learning for drug discovery at ICML 2018: very incomplete"
https://medium.com/the-ai-lab/mit-paper-in-ai-for-drug-discovery-at-icml-2018-very-incomplete-a0ba9fd39853

"Youdidn't need deep learning to generate new molecules"
https://medium.com/the-ai-lab/you-didnt-need-deep-learning-to-generate-new-molecules-4c784747b2cc

We will also discuss practical solutions to this hype problem.

The meeting is free & open to everyone.

Organizer: Mostapha Benhenda, PhD, founder of the online AI lab Startcrowdhttps://www.startcrowd.club
