We're taking Civic Tech'ish to Governors Island. Happy hour runs from 2 to 4 on Saturday, October 10th, out on the water with the harbor & the skyline as the backdrop.nWhat to Expect:nA cross-section of people working on cities & public systems: public servants, technologists, founders, funders, consultants, & nonprofit operatorsnGenuine conversations across different corners of civic & urban tech: different roles, different focus areas, all in one placenNo sales pitches, no panels, just good companynFun prizes via our always-popular raffle nOptional activities before the happy hour so you can make a full island day of itnMake a Full Day of It:nThe main extra is a volunteer session with the Billion Oyster Project. They're restoring NY Harbor with oyster reefs, a natural fit for a group that spends its weekdays working on cities & public systems.nYou can also join Jer Thorp for Bird Data Portraits from 1 to 2. Jer is a data artist & bird enthusiast, & he'll help you make a data portrait of your favorite local bird using data from eBird. All materials will be provided, & you'll wrap up right as the happy hour begins.nPick Your Ticket:nHappy Hour Only: The main event, 2 to 4 on the water. Ferry over whenever works for you.nHappy Hour + Volunteer: The volunteer session, then straight into the happy hour. Starts with a 9:15am ferry & wraps at 2:30. Spots are limited, & we'll follow up with details.nHappy Hour + Workshop: Bird Data Portraits with Jer Thorp from 1 to 2, then straight into the happy hour. Materials provided, spots are limited.nWho Should Come:nIf you work in civic & urban tech, or anywhere adjacent, you belong here. Whether you've been to every happy hour or never made it to one, a Saturday afternoon on the island is a pretty great place to start. Expect good company & the kind of conversations that only happen when we get out from behind our screens.nGetting There:nGovernors Island is a short ferry ride from Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn.
