EVENT DETAILS
BetaNYC has designed tools & customized trainings specifically intended to help Community Boards access, analyze, map & use data to inform decision-making. These insights come from a three year partnership with the Manhattan Borough President's Office.

This workshop will teach you the fundamentals of NYC's open data portal, how to find your desired datasets, & implement fundamental functions in the City's open data portal, Socrata, & spreadsheets, aka Google Sheets. While this is an introductory workshop, you will leave completely confident in your ability to create useful data summaries using Socrata's 'roll-up' & Google Sheets' pivot table. Be prepared to work on & off the computer, as mid-way through we join together for a tactile, hands-on data exercise.

You do not need to attend 101 nor 102 to attend this class. Note - this workshop will focus on basic Socrata & Google Sheet functions. If you are comfortable with either tool, this class might be a bit basic for you.

To maximize this class, you should bring a laptop & power adapter with Windows, Mac OS, or Chromebook OS. This class will not work on, iOS phones or tablets, nor on Android devices.

This class is free to Manhattan Borough President Staff, Manhattan Community Board Staff & Members, & City Council Staff. If you don't have an access code, please email cif@beta.nyc >
We have five public seats with a suggested donation of $30.

We will be hosting one other intro to open data classe. All classes are at the Manhattan Borough President's Office & take place from noon to 2. Please register for them.
Intro to US Census data, GIS, & the Carto platform - Thursday, Jan 31
