Join us for the 4th edition of our Net Zero Value Chains event during New York Climate Week!
2025 marks a pivotal year for corporate climate action. As companies face a fast-changing landscape-defined by shifting standards, increased scrutiny around GHG emissions accounting, & growing political uncertainty-the pressure is on to evolve. Organizations are demanding more flexibility in how they set & meet climate targets, & in the instruments they can use to do so.
Many companies are ramping up efforts to cut emissions across their value chains, yet a crucial challenge persists: how to credibly account for the outcomes of these interventions within corporate inventories & how to make claims towards science-based targets, in a way that aligns with evolving standards & regulatory expectations.
This moment of uncertainty also brings opportunity. With trust in climate claims more critical than ever, the market is rapidly moving toward higher-integrity approaches that reward credible, measurable impact.
This year's event will explore how companies can navigate this evolving landscape - by embracing proven methods, aligning with updated guidance, & unlocking scalable, high-impact solutions for Scope 3 decarbonization.
What to expect:
Tackle Scope 3 traceability & data challenges with practical solutions, including innovative aggregation methods & new traceability frameworks.
Explore market-based instruments like Supply Sheds & activity pools, & how they can drive credible emissions reductions in complex value chains.
Hear from leading standard-setters on the evolving relationship between accounting, reporting, & claiming emissions reductions.
Gain clarity on key debates, such as direct vs. indirect mitigation, & prepare for the next wave of Scope 3 guidance & safeguards.
Join a collaborative space of industry leaders, standards organizations, & sustainability experts to shape the future of net-zero value chains & credible climate action.
Agenda
2:30-2:50 Welcome words by the Value Change Initiative
Silvana Paniagua, Director of VCI
Naomi Montenegro, Senior Technical Program Manager, VCI
3:00-4:00 Panel #1: Scaling Scope 3 Action: Accounting Pathways Using GHG Inventories & Market-Based Instruments
As companies advance their Scope 3 strategies to reduce emissions across complex, multi-tiered value chains, they often encounter critical challenges-limited traceability, a lack of supplier-specific data, & highly dynamic sourcing systems. These barriers directly impact how companies can account for & claim emissions reductions in alignment with Science Based Targets & regulatory disclosure requirements.
This session will explore how leading companies are overcoming these challenges by implementing practical solutions-ranging from novel data aggregation approaches to market-based instruments. We'll examine innovative models such as Supply Sheds, which offer an approach to measure & attribute impact in systems without full traceability, & look at emerging traceability frameworks that enhance visibility across the supply chain. The discussion will highlight credible accounting pathways that reflect the current evolution of standards & support robust, transparent reporting in a dynamic & interconnected value chain landscape.
Speakers:
Sally Flis, Director, Sustainable Ag Program Design & Outcome Management, Nutrien
Steven Rosenzweig, Soil Scientist, General Mills
Tory Hoffmeister, Climate Strategy Manager, Global Business Solution, 3Degrees
Autumn Fox, Global Sustainability Director, Mars
Moderated by: Thomas Blackburn, VP Sales & Partnerships, SustainCERT
4:00 - 4:30 Networking coffee break
4:30- 5:30 Panel #2 : Scope 3 Standards in Transition: Accounting, Reporting & Claiming in an Evolving Landscape
In a rapidly shifting regulatory & geopolitical context, the standards governing Scope 3 emissions are undergoing significant updates. Key initiatives-such as the Science Based Targets initiative's (SBTi) Corporate Net-Zero Standard v2.0, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol's Land Sector & Removals Standard, the revision of their whole suite of standards & the Actions & Markets Instrument process - are at the forefront of redefining how companies measure, report, & claim emissions reductions.
This panel brings together leaders from major standard-setting bodies to discuss how these updates are shaping the future of Scope 3 climate action. The conversation will focus on the evolving relationship between accounting, reporting, & claiming GHG emissions & the associated requirements & safeguards.
Panellists will also explore critical issues such as the distinction between direct & indirect mitigation, the role of traceability, & how new guidance is helping define credible corporate action. Attendees will gain clarity on what to expect & how to prepare for the next generation of climate standards.
Speakers:
Alberto Carrillo Pineda, Chief Technical Officer, Science Based Targets initiative
Pankaj Bhatia, Global Director, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, World Resources Institute
Alistair Monument, Director of Programmes, International Social & Environmental Accreditation & Labelling (ISEAL)
Claire Wigg, Head of Climate Performance Practice, Exponential Roadmap Initiative & Project Lead, ISO Net Zero Standard
Moderated by Silvana Paniagua, Director of VCI
