Technology offers cities new potential for understanding the needs of residents, re-engaging citizens in governance, & creating more two-way mechanisms for accountability. However, there have been many hurdles to the creation & adoption of civic tech, most notably local government's' wariness to adopt new digital tools & start-ups' seeming apathy towards designing for users outside the Silicon Valley bubble. But more governments are realizing the necessity of integrating digital tools into their arsenals, just as more start-ups are seeking to make a difference through technology.
An evening of discussion about New York, urban innovation, & how do cities allow entrepreneurship to thrive? This event will feature speakers from Sidewalk Labs, Civic Hall, Silicon Harlem, & beyond to talk about what it really means to be a smart, innovative city in 2018.
