DETAILS

The Center for Urban Science + Progress (CUSP) at NYU Tandon & Transit Techies welcome you to attend a talk by Bianca Ng on "The Museum of Transversal Art," a sophisticated data visualization created using Tableau that offers both analytical insights & visual narratives about the spatial distribution of art installations throughout the transit system. This project combines exploratory & explanatory elements, inviting users to engage with the data before experiencing the artwork in person-mirroring Ng's own methodology of data validation through site visits.

Created for the 2024 MTA Open Data Challenge, the visualization demonstrates an innovative use of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's datasets. Specifically, Ng merged the Permanent Art Catalog with the MTA Subway Stations dataset to create a comprehensive mapping of public art installations. In recognition of its excellence, "The Museum of Transversal Art" was distinguished as a finalist for providing the "most comprehensive view of the data" in November 2024. Additionally, the project received the prestigious "Viz of the Day" designation on Tableau Public.

Join Transit Techies, CUSP, & Bianca Ng for an exploration of the remarkable artistic collection maintained within the MTA system! Additionally, connect with NYU CUSP & Transit Techies NYC at this talk & enjoy networking over light bites & refreshments.

The event will be held at 370 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY, 12th Floor, in Room 1201. We hope to see you there!
