Nuclear fusion is the source of all usable energy in the universe, & the ability to master this process on the planet Earth means we can get 700 gallons of gasoline worth of energy out of a gallon of seawater by burning naturally occurring deuterium, an isotope of hydrogen.
While the sun compresses hydrogen to fusion conditions with gravity, here on Earth its a bit different: compressing plasma to fusion conditions has been a long & steady march of technical & engineering progress for over 60 years of publicly funded science, & the torch has now been passed to a new generation of private commercial fusion companies.
This event will feature talks from the scientists, engineers, & founders of fusion companies across the energy landscape of reactor designs, covering things like magnetic confinement in near-steady state conditions like stellarators & tokamaks, magneto-inertial confinement using pulsed operation systems like Z-pinch, as well as laser inertial confinement & electrostatic inertial confinement.
