Women in Product & Spotify are teaming up to host an event exploring the topic of Inception of a Marketplace.
We will kick off the event with an introduction to Women in Product & the New York community, & transition to a lightning talk by Senior Product Lead at Spotify, Kene Anoliefo, who will share how she's building a two-sided marketplace at Spotify that helps artists build a successful & sustainable career by connecting them to 150M+ fans on Spotify.
We'll then transition to a panel with women product leaders from Spotify, 1stDibs, & Skin Allies to discuss the challenges & lessons learned from creating platforms & marketplaces. We'll explore questions such as:
Identifying customers, partners & beneficiaries of a marketplace
How do you monetize on a marketplace strategy?
How you set, enforce & govern engagement in a new marketplace platform?
What is the role of design & user research in building a marketplace?

Kene Anoliefo, Senior Product Lead at Spotify
Kene Anoliefo is a product leader with a decade of experience in new product development at high-growth tech companies. As a Sr. Product Lead in Creator Marketplace at Spotify, she leads a team of 30 with a mission to build software & services that disrupt the music value chain & innovate on the artist experience.
Prior to Spotify, Kene was a lead PM & 7th employee at the real-estate technology startup Compass where she launched the consumer experience for rentals & sales. She also worked at YouTube designing brand sponsorships for entertainment companies like Warner Brothers, HBO & ABC, & at the White House during President Obama's first term.
Kene received her B.A. from Yale University & her MBA from Stanford University. She's a diehard Cleveland sports fan & coaches a girls' middle school basketball team in her spare time.
Sneha Rao, Senior Product Lead, Data Infrastructure at Spotify
Sneha Rao is a Senior Product Lead for the Data Infrastructure team at Spotify, where she works with engineers & designers to make data discoverable, accessible, & easy to understand at Spotify. Most recently, she worked on making Spotify GDPR compliant as per EU Regulation by setting up data access, retention & general data controls to protect sensitive information about our users.She's an experienced Product Manager with a demonstrated history of working with Big data products at scale at Spotify, The New York Times, Comcast & NASA's Socio-Economic Data & Application Center (SEDAC). She recently graduated with her second masters with an MBA from New York University - Leonard N. Stern School of Business focused in Entrepreneurship, Strategy & Leadership & Change management.
Cassie Bowman, Senior Product Lead, Advertising Data Management Platform at Spotify
Cassie Bowman is the Sr. Product Lead for Spotify's advertising Data Management Platform, where she leads a team of 30 to develop infrastructure products that power the revenue business. Prior to Spotify, Cassie was a Sr. Product Manager at an early stage startup, Tapad, where she led the development of programmatic & advertising exchange products. Before she found her love for product & tech, she worked in Finance at JP Morgan where she was focused on strategy & corporate development.
Sarah Raymond, Senior Product Lead, Ad Experience at Spotify - Moderator
Sarah Raymond is senior product lead of Spotify's Ad Experience team. She leads a team of 45 engineers, designers, & data scientists to develop Spotify's user-facing ad experience, including ad formats, creative automation, & ad infrastructure. She joined Spotify in 2013 to focus on operations & business development before moving into product management. Prior to Spotify, she worked as a creative production manager at Open Air Publishing, developing interactive how-to book apps, & as a consultant at Bain & Company, focusing on digital strategy.
Katherine Fischer, Director of Product, 1stDibs
As the Director of Product at 1stdibs, Katherine oversees the product strategy to ensure dealers are successful on the 1stdibs marketplace. This includes product teams focused on dealer tools, inventory management, reputation systems, on-platform communications & the dealer mobile app. Prior to leading the dealer team, Katherine oversaw the launch of the 1stdibs mobile app for customers.
Before joining 1stdibs, Katherine was a Senior Product Manager at SinglePlatform, where she oversaw development of products that helped small businesses easily publish their business information across the web. Prior to that, Katherine spent 6.5 years at Seamless/GrubHub working on a variety of projects for the restaurant marketplace, including launching native mobile apps, enhancing search & browse capabilities & expanding product offerings for restaurants.
Nu Dao, Founder & CEO of Skin Allies
Nu Dao, Founder & CEO of Skin Allies, is an experienced operator who has scaled consumer retail venture-backed startups. She led product teams for both VC backed startups & big box retailers, predominantly in female-driven marketplaces. True&Co, backed by First Round & SoftBank, acquired by Calvin Klein parent PVH in 2017 with 5M customers. Founding team of price.com, backed by Founders Fund & Social Capital, & launched them at Google I/O 2016. She also led product for Weddings & Registry (a $20B+ market) at macys.com, helping to redesign the O2O experience. She has consulted early stage startups on how to get products to market quickly, & how to grow their early user base organically.
