Tremaine Wright, Chairperson of the New York State Cannabis Control Board
Tremaine S. Wright is a former member of the New York State Assembly who thereafter, served as the first Director of the DFS Statewide Office of Financial Inclusion & Empowerment. Ms. Wright is an attorney, entrepreneur, & activist who is a second-generation Bedford Stuyvesant resident invested in preserving the rich legacy of her community & building a strong foundation for the future. She has dedicated her career to empowering & creating opportunities for her neighbors & her community.
The New York State Cannabis Control Board is the approval & oversight body of the Office of Cannabis Management. The Board is responsible for approving the comprehensive regulatory framework for New York's cannabis industry, including issuing applications & licenses to cannabis businesses & approving the rules & regulations which will govern the new industry.

In 2016, Jesce was appointed by Oregon Governor Kate Brown to the Task Force for Cannabis Environmental Best Practice
Jesce served on the board of directors & as chairman at Resource Innovation Institute (RII), the Oregon Cannabis Association & served a 2-year advisory board term at Marijuana Business Daily.
After holding the position of board advisor, Jesce was appointed as the current CEO of Ben's Best Blnz, the new venture by Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry's fame aimed at funding Black-owned cannabis companies & further supporting the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition & Last Prisoner Project.
Jesce has also served on numerous federal, state & local cannabis regulatory advisory committees to help shape the legal cannabis markets in both Oregon & California.
Jesce co-founded the non profit organization NuProject, a historic initiative financially seeded in-part by the City of Portland since 2019. NuProject delivers grants, loans, educational resources, job matching assistance & entrepreneurial services to cannabis business owners & career hopefuls.
Jesce is on the advisory board & is teaching at the first college in New York to have Business of Cannabis degree programs, LIM College. Jesce is also an adjunct professor at HBCU Medgar Evers College while continuing his education at Cornell's Master of Professional Studies program with a concentration in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA).
Jill Scher, CPA, Partner at Marcum LLP
Jill Scher is a partner in the Tax & Business Services division of Marcum LLP in the Melville office & is a business developer for the Firm. With more than 25 years of public & private experience, she has an outstanding reputation for developing strong relationships & uses her diverse experience, technical proficiency, & problem-solving skills to consult with a wide range of businesses & industries.
Ms. Scher advises on tax minimization & deferral strategies for companies & their owners & is adept at recognizing tax & credit incentive opportunities, including research & development, work opportunity tax credits, & investment tax credits, to name a few. She advises clients about tax ramifications prior to potential transactions & has helped clients with the successful abatement of IRS & State Penalties.
In addition, Ms. Scher has developed a specialty in the cannabis space, assisting companies with technology solutions & tax planning, & helping to forge relationships within the industry. Ms. Scher takes pride in assisting her network of resources within & outside of the Firm, in all aspects of client needs. She shares this knowledge through frequent speaking engagements, appearing at professional & industry events on a variety of business & tax topics.
Ms. Scher also teaches tax, technical & professional ethics classes for an outside organization, CPE, providing continuing education to CPAs within the tri-state area on individual & business tax planning & other specialty areas of taxation.
Jon Purow, Partner at Greenspoon Marder
Jon Purow is a partner in the Cannabis Law & Intellectual Property practice groups at Greenspoon Marder, specializing in general intellectual property litigation & transactions, as well as cannabis regulatory, intellectual property, & transactional matters.
From start-ups to publicly traded multinational companies, Mr. Purow works with a broad array of clients to establish, protect, license, & enforce their intellectual property. Mr. Purow assists clients in acquiring, clearing, filing, & maintaining favorable intellectual property rights on the state, federal & international levels as appropriate. While he prides himself on finding strategic & creative manners to cost-effectively resolve unavoidable disputes, he vigorously advocates & litigates for his clients when circumstances dictate.

Mr. Purow hosted the podcast Cannabis Last Week which featured interviews with industry luminaries, as well as biweekly updates featuring news & analysis covering all developments in the cannabis & psychedelics industries on the state, federal & international levels.
