Lyft is in the midst of a transition from a legacy, mutate-in-place deployment stack to one based on immutable containers on top of Kubernetes. Our existing infrastructure makes heavy use of daemons to provide a consistent platform relied upon by over 500 engineers.
In a containerized environment, side-car containers allow you to compose these infrastructure dependencies with clean abstractions. However, traditional methods of side-car infrastructure deployments can leave wide variance in what is actually running in production with poor automation & controls. To combat this, were embracing disposable infrastructure to ensure we can perform updates to common infrastructure on hundreds of microservices in a safe & consistent manner.

Speakers Bio
Yann Ramin is the technical lead for the Deploys team at Lyft, where he leads efforts in all things continuous delivery, providing tools & services to enable Lyft engineers to build world class systems. Yann has a background in massively distributed sensor networks, which carried over to leading the efforts on extremely large scale time-series databases & processing systems at Twitter & Lyft.
Garrett Heel is an engineer at Lyft focused on reliability of production systems. His work includes the implementation of a simulation platform to drive load testing & determine system health, & his current dedication to risk-free deployments. Throughout his career, Garrett has spent his time working across all parts of the stack attempting to build outstanding developer tools.
