Please join the Columbia Venture Community Miami Chapter on Tuesday, January 26th @ 6pm ET for a discussion on Entrepreneurship at Columbia with Orin Herskowitz, Senior Vice President of Intellectual Property & Tech Transfer for Columbia University & Executive Director of Columbia Technology Ventures, & Chris McGarry, Senior Director for Entrepreneurship in the University Office of Alumni & Development.

Orin will share his experience on the IP-backed science-based startups emerging from the faculty research labs, & Chris will cover Columbia Entrepreneurship's activities, which help harness the business expertise, experience & talent in the alumni community for the benefit of young Columbia entrepreneurs.

Speakers
Orin Herskowitz

Orin Herskowitz is the Senior Vice President of Intellectual Property & Tech Transfer for Columbia University, as well as Executive Director of Columbia Technology Ventures (CTV). He also is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia's Business & Engineering Schools. He has served on boards or served as the Principle Investigator for a number of innovation & entrepreneurship-focused initiatives, including the NYC Media Lab, the PowerBridgeNY clean energy proof-of-concept center, the Columbia Coulter Translational Partnership, the Academic Venture Exchange, the NYC ACRE technology incubator, & Harlem Biospace; has been a peer reviewer for innovation & entrepreneurship awards for the National Science Foundation, the US Small Business Association, the Association of Public & Land-grant Universities; a published author on the topic of translating university-stage technology; & is a frequent speaker at technology-focused events in NYC & across the country. Orin has also been appointed by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker to the National Advisory Council on Innovation & Entrepreneurship, serving a two-year term beginning in 2016. Orin received his BA from Yale & his MBA from the Wharton School of Business. Prior to joining Columbia, Orin spent 7 years at the Boston Consulting Group's New York office as a strategy consultant, & was previously an entrepreneur & a consultant to start-ups.


Christopher McGarry

Chris is Senior Director for Entrepreneurship in the University Office of Alumni & Development. In this role, he helps to harness the business expertise, experience & talent in the alumni community for the benefit of young Columbia entrepreneurs. Mr. McGarry comes to Columbia Entrepreneurship from three years at Columbia Engineering where as a major gift officer he helped to connect SEAS alumni with entrepreneurship programming & young Columbia entrepreneurs. Prior to Columbia Engineering, Mr. McGarry enjoyed a 20-year career as a technology advertising & marketing professional working with many of the world's biggest technology brands including Oracle, Cisco, Borland, Symantec & Seagate.
