The experience of hiring & firing is an arduous & painful affair for all parties involved. Unfortunately, during those events is also where you will encounter the most human, but not necessarily humane, contact.

Then there is all that stuff in between...

The process of firing, hiring & looking for jobs sucks. The person looking for a job will encounter countless employment sites, faceless company portals, vague job descriptions, ugly web forms, random LinkedIn invites, networking events, & an overall lack of feedback or encouragement. Technology does not seem to have helped as much as add additional layers. All of these contribute to an overall lonely & miserable user experience. There must be decent solutions out there to help address this problem.

The company hiring needs to write up job descriptions, sort through piles of candidates, & take time & money to interview, budget, negotiate & eventually retain qualified individuals. Positions may go unfilled for long periods of time and/or the quality of candidates may be lacking.

Lets apply our UX principles & design thinking caps & look at this experience from all sides to begin identifying what works & what needs fixing.

About the speaker:

Dan Kawasaki is a user experience practitioner, teacher, & leader with over twenty years of experience in the field. He teaches A Holistic User Experience at Parsons School of Design @ The New School & multimedia design at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. He has both hired & fired & been hired & fired. As of this writing, Dan is also looking for a new job after his recent company shut down most global operations at the beginning of 2018. That led to the idea for this talk.
