More about this month's speaker:
Alison Cayne, Founder & CEO of Haven's Kitchen
Alison Cayne is the founder & CEO of Haven's Kitchen, a recreational cooking school, cafe & event space in Manhattan. Recognizing that improving our food system starts with showing people how to source & utilize sustainable ingredients, Alison conceptualized a school for the recreational cook that is both educational & comfortable. Located in a charming carriage house just two blocks from the Union Square farmers market, Haven's Kitchen emphasizes the pleasures of cooking, eating & entertaining.
Before founding Haven's Kitchen, Alison began working towards her Masters in NYU's Food Studies program & worked with GrowNYC, educating school groups & visitors about the importance of regional ingredients & farming practices.
Every day, Haven's Kitchen teaches guests that eating sustainably is synonymous with eating well, & serves as a one-stop-shop for guests who want to learn about, experience & enjoy local & artisanal food.
In addition to her work at Haven's Kitchen & studying at NYU, Alison is on the boards of Just Food, Edible Schoolyard NYC & FERN (Food & Environmental Reporting Network).
Drew Lederman (moderator), current NYU Female Founders Fellow & Founder of Resist Nutrition
Drew Lederman fell in love with the food space while working as a copywriter, marketer, & content creator for brands such as Thesis & Chix Soup Co. After graduating from NYU during the pandemic with a degree in acting & journalism & a minor in business, she started Resist with her co-founder, Emily Cohen (Steinhardt 23). Drew has polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) & insulin resistance, which caused her to struggle with finding a bar that didn't mess with her hormones or give her a fast blood sugar spike. That's why Resist is on a mission to make it easy to snack for balanced hormones & blood sugar on the go through plant-based nutrition bars that have hormone-supportive, naturally low-carb ingredients & are clinically proven to slow blood sugar response.
