Title: Crato, an open source framework to easily deploy centralized logging

Speaker: Kurth OConnor
Kurth is a Brooklyn-based developer & former college professor. He has worked in both Ruby & JavaScript ecosystems, SQL, NoSQL, data streaming & pipelines. He is also an accomplished researcher & educator.

Abstract: Applications & system services record their events to local log files, but by default these log messages remain on local systems & are eventually either archived away never to be seen or permanently deleted. Without intervening then, developers & administrators lose valuable insight into the history, performance, & security of their systems & applications.

Crato allows developers to quickly & easily deploy a centralized logging infrastructure to address this problem. Using Crato, each machine sends its logs to a central collection server, where developers can gain insight into their entire system by analyzing the consolidated logs across the entire deployed fleet of systems & applications. Besides log data consolidation & analysis (via InfluxDB), Crato also provides smart compression & archiving (via Amazon S3 & S3 Glacier). Crato makes configuring, deploying, & maintaining all these pieces easy & fast.

Title: CushionDB

Speaker: Avshar Kirksall
Avshar is a full stack engineer currently working as an e-commerce developer at Mita Consulting. Most recently, he created CushionDB, an open source data management framework for progressive web apps.

Abstract: CushionDB is an easy-to-use data management framework for building small, offline-first, Progressive Web applications. It simplifies the process of managing & persisting single-user data without writing any server-side database code. It also provides user authentication out of the box, helping developers build secure PWA-compliant applications for client-side data management. CushionDB expands on current offline-first data models by employing different PWA tools that ensure data integrity regardless of network connectivity, & abstracts many of the complexities around utilizing these tools for native-like client side data management. It is the only client side database that enables data synchronization independent of web app's status. It will sync data bidirectionally even if the web app is closed.
