Abstract:

"Lineage 3.0: Using D3.js to chart 250 years of family history" is a deep dive into the art & science of building network graphs with D3.js.

From mapping genealogical data spanning centuries to visualizing customer relationships & charting complex TV show character connections, this talk showcases the versatility of force-directed graphs. We'll explore the challenges & best practices of working with D3.js, highlighting coding styles, the balance of configuration vs. convention, & lessons learned from over a decade of side projects.

Along the way, you'll gain insights into open-source development, navigating software licenses, & the creative freedom that comes from transforming your passion into practical, shareable tools. Whether you're a data visualization enthusiast, a history buff, or a side project veteran, this talk will inspire you to bring your own networks to life.
