EVENT DETAILS
We live in a globally connected digital ecosystem that delivers remarkable experiences for its users & to the benefit of its proprietors. Yet the system is vulnerable to attack by adversaries; as leading security expert Bruce Schneier has noted, Western democracies are both the most vulnerable countries on the planet & the most unprepared for a cyberattack. In addition, our democracy has been criticized for promoting surveillance capitalism, a system in which customer data is collected, sorted, & offered up for sale. Social media sites are known to collect & sell data, seeking ways to stimulate user activity on their platforms.

The Annual Threat Assessments by the U.S. intelligence community reveal that our vulnerabilities persist in software & systems, in supply chains for hardware & software, & in the implementation of recommended security measures. The absence of required security measures, fines for problematic conduct, & requirements that induce appropriate behavior supports a view that deeper penetration of connections in society in the face of vulnerable systems will widen - not narrow - our security woes.

Join us for this one-hour webcast in which Len Kennedy, adjunct professor at Cornell Law School, offers his views on government agency coordination & industry participation in the oversight of a globally connected digital ecosystem.
