The concept of creativity has a surprisingly short history. While ancient philosophers expounded on imagination & free will, theorizations of creativity as a distinct trait only date to the past hundred years.

GenAI suggests that creativity is not unique to humans or even conscious organisms, but is reducible to mere calculation & programming. Has creativity finally been revealed as a sham?

This week's interactive community conversation explores thought experiments that embody the philosophical issues raised by genAI tools; how scholars & artists have framed the relationship between creativity & technology; was creativity always a myth, & if so, is this a problem?

OUR FACILITATOR
Emma Stamm is the Co-Founder & Executive Director of The Lenox Institute for Advanced Study. She holds a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies from Virginia Tech, & her work bridges critical theory & STS.

WHO'S IT FOR?
Idea people. Founders. Builders. Creatives. Researchers. The Curious. And their Supporters

--------------
FORMAT
Our format explores ideas together through our diverse backgrounds, while building relationships & community through the process. We want you to talk to each other, instead of just being talked at.

5:30PM - Settle in, grab a drink & some food at the bar, & meet some new people before we start our event.

6:00PM - Our conversation begins with our facilitator presenting the knowledge & context for the conversation along the way. The conversation between attendees will explore from surface level understandings, to deep implications & future iterations.

7:30PM - Meet & connect with new people, catch up with people you haven't seen in a while, discover all the different ways you overlap. And then just hang out, grab a drink, play some pool or ping pong! Or stay for the band afterwards!

Our desire is to be the antithesis of NYC's corporate panel & transactional networking culture. We aim to create a vibrant idea & build space in NYC that focuses on the passion & values beyond the money & the hustle.

ABOUT COHORT
Cohort is a space & home for ideas, & the people who think about them, create new ones, & build things from them. Many of us are founders, builders, artists, researchers, & their supporters here in NYC.

Our goal is to turn the city into a campus after college.

We hold idea & discussion events, coworking events for support & accountability for those building & creating things, & pure social events to build genuine relationships & community.

Subscribe, browse our calendar, & join us for our next events!

Photography Notice

We may take photos & video at our events to share on social media & our website. We use it to spread the word & help more people find this community. By attending, you're giving us permission to use those photos & videos in anything related to Cohort's promotion & outreach.
