Cyber operations are today an integral part of international relations. From the infamous Stuxnet to election meddling, from the worldwide economic consequences of the WannaCry & NotPetya ransomware to the ongoing armed conflicts in Ukraine, this masterclass unveils the gripping realm of state-sponsored cyber activities. States employ malware & other cyber operations to spy, disrupt, & even cause physical damage. International law, as the cornerstone of international peace & security, also applies to these activities. Yet, important questions exist on the interpretation & application to this legal framework that was mostly developed years before the dawn of the internet. Furthermore, questions pertaining to the application of international law to cyberspace are today highly instrumentalized & politicized, with States & other actors competing for normative influence.
