Columbia DSL is excited to announce a new monthly prototyping series entitled Test/Break. Each month we'll focus on a number of projects that are in various states of development. Test/Break will provide a forum for creatives exploring new forms & functions of storytelling. Focus is placed on projects that are pushing at the edges of narrative possibilities with emerging technology (AI, AR, VR, IoT...) as well as web pervasive technologies. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are working to adapt or create virtual work & have interest in experimenting with various types of collaboration & participatory methods of interaction. Each prototyping session is followed by an open conversation between storytellers & participants that pulls back the curtain on creative practice.

We're excited to be featuring new work from Uli Ap & Steven Shikhel.
Uli will be prototyping elements of "The Alienation Project"
The Alienation Project explores no borders & no identity questions through investigations of a character called Alien-AI, who constantly transforms between artificial intelligence & alien forms of life.
Uli Ap is a London-based trans-disciplinary artist, who critically investigates technology & its relationship to society & science. Ap creates immersive interactive installations where virtual & physical experiences collide & alter participants mental states through disorienting video-audio-VR environments, destabilizing performances, & AIVRBCIRobotics situations. Uli Ap lives & works all over the globe.
Steven will be prototyping elements of Chauhaus
You are what you eat, so who are you? Chauhaus is a virtual dinner party where participants break bread, give toasts, & practice mindful eating. Chauhaus creates a non-hierarchical & nurturing space to learn, be heard, & engage in round-table discussion with participants across the globe.
Steven Shikhel PhD is a classically-trained scientist on admission to change the way people interact & think about food. Steven is the founder of AITE, a data-intensive wellness organization that teaches you about you. Steven is currently the resident culinary artist @ the cell theatre.
