Join us on Tuesday, September 9th at Materialize. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. to give attendees plenty of time to grab pizza & socialize, & the talks begin at 7:30 p.m.
Talk 1 - Nikolay (Motif)
Motif is an online workspace where building design teams bring plans & 3D models together, see updates live, & collaborate in one place instead of juggling files
At Motif, Nikolay has been building a native Rust geometry pipeline that interoperates with a longstanding C++ kernel. He'll walk through why he chose Rust, how the team approached visualization/system structure (including where Bevy fit), & how they made the FFI boundary safe & predictable. This is a candid account of what worked, what didn't, & the patterns they'd use again. Takeaways focus on decision-making & real-world constraints, not theory.
Talk 2 - Robert (ESP32 / RISCV)
Robert has been exploring embedded Rust on ESP32 (RISCV generation) & will share the path he took: getting set up, bringing up peripherals, & deciding when to use HALs versus lowerlevel control. He'll cover how he approached debugging, timing, & power concerns, & why 2025 feels like the right moment to jump in. Expect practical lessons, tradeoffs, & what he'd do differently next time, rather than a prescriptive tutorial.
It should be a good time! Hope to see you there!
Lawrence Harvey is Rust NYC's official recruitment partner, with Ross providing support as a co-organizer & financial support for food & drinks.
The space is generously sponsored by our longstanding partner Materialize.
