Presenter: Katya N. Vasilaky, PhD.
Bio: Katya Vasilaky is a postdoctoral research fellow at Columbia University's Earth Institute working in both economics & bayesian statistics. She has been working with data & statistics for the last ten years, primarily in developing countries from East Africa to India to Asia for the last 10 years. She was also the VP of Research for a tech startup, ID.me, in Washington DC.
Overview: This workshop will be a brief intro to using R for data analysis for the beginner. Some familiarity with data & statistics will be helpful. This will not be a comprehensive introduction to R. Rather, it will be a short introduction to using R for simple analysis. We'll use a sample dataset to munge & manipulate into a format for running statistics & graphs. In that process we'll cover some common R functions that an analyst would most commonly use:subset, rep, split, dates, plyr package, merges/joins, csv, if/else statement, & a for/while loop.
$5 is collected for dinner & to cover costs.
