Fostering an innovative industry ecosystem

The Center for Architecture Science & Ecology (CASE) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute & LACI Climate Programs @ BATWorks will co-host an Industry Roundtable to discuss the future of building decarbonization through the lens of the new climate innovation hub at the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

The event will convene academic researchers, industry leaders, & community members to examine a holistic approach to building decarbonization, how it can further align with NYC priorities & how New York City's growing climate tech ecosystem can accelerate progress.

Opening with a series of presentations from key stakeholders at the intersection of building decarbonization & innovation including NYC EDC, BATWorks & LACI, NYSERDA, startup companies, & more. Attendees will then split into two roundtable discussions of approximately 25 to 30 participants each. Each roundtable will address important challenges for NYC in reducing the carbon footprint & what the future building decarbonization hub at BATWorks will look like:

Roundtable 1 will address embodied carbon: building materials, construction processes, & infrastructure

Roundtable 2 will address operational carbon: building energy systems, renewable energy integration, & AI-driven building operations

This roundtable represents a critical step in shaping what a building decarbonization hub at BATWorks could look like - & how academic institutions, city agencies, startups, & industry can align their strengths to meet New York City's ambitious climate goals.
