Tripadvisor, the worlds preferred travel guidance company, is looking for a Deputy Editor to join our growing editorial team. Youll play a critical role in bringing to life the Tripadvisor brand for millions of travelers, & youll help transform one of the most iconic travel brands in the world with content that inspires users to get up & go. 

The right-hand to the Head of Editorial, this position will play a critical role in building out Tripadvisors nascent content arm. This individual is a jack-of-all-trades editor who can do it all, from creative brainstorming to the sort of on-the-ground work that keeps the content gears going. The right candidate is a scrappy, get-things-done kind of person someone who is excited to think big but unafraid to roll up their sleeves & edit copy. Theyve also got an excellent network of writers & contributors; a knack for what makes a great story; a fresh, smart perspective on what traveling means now; & original, fun, spirited ideas about how to bring Tripadvisors community to life. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assign, oversee & edit stories from freelance writers around the world

  • Build a regular, robust, diverse stable of contributing editors & writers

  • Operationalize pitch feedback, deadlines & content flow

  • Take the lead on editorial packages & large tent-poles; work with colleagues to develop ambitious & original ideas that will make a splash

  • Help iterate on the monthly, seasonal & yearly content calendar while balancing business needs & editorial values

  • Work closely with Tripadvisors product, data/analytics & social teams to find new, modern ways to connect with audiences across different platforms

  • Uphold Tripadvisors editorial standards, voice & tone 

  • Help establish a culture of performance, integrating measurement & analytics into editorial decision-making to tie content creation to revenue

  • Stay informed on current trends in the travel market & lifestyle space

  • Utilize digital tools like Parse.ly to effectively optimize content

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of digital editorial experience, ideally with a strong focus on travel

  • A strong network of freelance writers, editors & creatives

  • Experience managing a large group of internal & external writers

  • Ability to coach individual contributors & editors, & share feedback in kind & constructive ways

  • Ability to work collaboratively & collegially with multiple stakeholders in a complex organization, including colleagues in product, sales & marketing teams, & social media

  • Razor-sharp ability to write, edit & package content

  • A clear, engaging, jargon-free writing style & strong editing skills across various platforms & markets

  • A deep commitment & proven track record of developing an equitable & inclusive team culture

  • A desire to push data & visual storytelling forward & the ability to think expansively

  • Experience with analytics & tools for tracking engagement metrics

  • Fresh ideas about how content at Tripadvisor can be more impactful & serve our audiences better
