Away is a global lifestyle brand with a mission to transform travel through products & content that inspire people to get away more. In support of our mission, we are seeking a Director, Merchandising- Bags & Accessories to join our Merchandising team. 

We're looking for a Director of Merchandising Strategy to lead assortment, launch, pricing, & gross margin strategy & planning for our growing line of travel goods. We started in early 2016 with the perfect Carry-On, expanded into Checked Bags, & are now expanding into the perfect version of everything you need to travel seamlessly. The right person for this role has a unique vision around product strategy, is highly data-driven & analytical, & excels at planning & timeline management. This role will work very closely with Product Development, Customer Insights, Supply Chain, Brand Marketing & Comms, Growth Marketing, Project Management, Retail, Finance, & Customer Experience. 

Want to help us transform the travel experience? The ideal candidate will have had experience in Bags & Accessories, omni-channel assortment strategy, and working on cross-functional teams. You will report to the VP, Merchandising, Planning, & Allocation based in our New York City office. This role will be a hybrid work model with immediate in-person presence required 1-2 times a week in our Soho HQ Office.

What youll do:

  • Work across the business to bring products to market that meet our customers needs while being true to our brand vision
  • Partner with Customer Insights, Data, & Customer Experience teams to intelligently plan key product categories
  • Work closely with Product Development & Product Design teams to turn product plans into reality
  • Interpret market trends & consumer needs & translate them to an actionable product direction, taking into consideration geography-based consumer preferences & specific channel needs
  • Implement comprehensive costing & pricing framework, gross margin strategy, competitive analysis, & sales analysis to provide a robust, data-driven product mix to meet company goals
  • Integrate customer feedback & insights into actionable recommendations for future product iterations
  • Develop product launch strategies with marketing teams that integrate wider company priorities, campaigns, & initiatives
  • Provide launch Merchandising guidance & guidelines across channels & markets, including our own retail stores & international markets
  • Drive company-wide product education initiatives to ensure members of all teams are well-versed in our present & future product offerings

Who you are:

  • You have 10 years of experience in Merchandising & Merchandising Strategy with background that spans both Merchandising assortment creativity as well as deep analytical & financial analysis
  • You deeply understand brand & creative, but support your decisions with financial & quantitative analysis
  • Your communication skills are unrivaled, & you know how to make people listen & understand
  • You are curious & resourceful with a natural ability to solve problems & seek new information
  • Youre extremely organized & adept at creating (and sticking to!) timelines & budgets
  • Team player with a "no task is too small" attitude
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced & ever-changing environment
  • Passionate about transforming travel (but thats a given!)
