EVENT DETAILS |
In 1989, 33-year-old computer programmer Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Weban event that transformed the way we communicate, create, govern, and do business, and allowed people from all corners of the globe to connect and collaborate. His visionary decision to make it a free and accessible resource underpinned this global revolution in communication. More than 25 years later, Berners-Lee continues to work to ensure that the Web stays free and open, and leads cutting edge research on its future architecture. He has called for Internet access to be declared a human right, campaigns for online rights such as privacy, net neutrality and gender equality, and develops Web standards to maintain one Web for all.
FOREVERYONE.NET, a new film by Jessica Yu, connects the future of the Web with the little-known story of its birth and grapples with an urgent question: Will we allow the Internet to be taken over by those who want to control it, or will we fight to make sure its richness and potential are available to everyone?
Please join us for a special screening of the film followed by a conversation with Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the Web and founder of the World Wide Web Foundation.
