The Future of Media
Paid Content is about the future of digital media in all its various forms, and the new and existing platforms that are evolving to host, distribute and monetize that media, from YouTube and Twitter to SnapChat and Medium. It would be easy to get caught up in the decline of traditional media models, but we want to look not at what has come before but at what is being born -- new ways of creating content, new ways of packaging and distributing thatcontent and new ways of finding an audience that can help pay for it.
Science-fiction writer William Gibson said, "The future is already here, it's just unevenly distributed," and the same goes for the future of media -- it is all around us, even though we might not realize it. It's being built by upstarts like BuzzFeed and Vice, and new mobile-focused experiments like Circa or Vine, and by innovators like Andrew Sullivan and Shane Smith, and it may (and probably will) look like nothing we have seen before.
How does content work in a digital-first era? Who pays for it? How does it find an audience or a market? What kinds of strategies are successful media entrepreneurs and outlets using, and how can you adapt them for your business? At Paid Content, we will dive head-first into these and other questions via in-depth interviews with the some of the main players involved, as well as panel discussions about the long-term implications of this ongoing disruption for content creators, distributors and business models.
