The Future of Media

Paid Content is about the future of digital media in all its various forms, & the new & existing platforms that are evolving to host, distribute & monetize that media, from YouTube & Twitter to SnapChat & Medium. It would be easy to get caught up in the decline of traditional media models, but we want to look not at what has come before but at what is being born -- new ways of creating content, new ways of packaging & distributing thatcontent & new ways of finding an audience that can help pay for it.

Science-fiction writer William Gibson said, "The future is already here, it's just unevenly distributed," & the same goes for the future of media -- it is all around us, even though we might not realize it. It's being built by upstarts like BuzzFeed & Vice, & new mobile-focused experiments like Circa or Vine, & by innovators like Andrew Sullivan & Shane Smith, & it may (and probably will) look like nothing we have seen before.

How does content work in a digital-first era? Who pays for it? How does it find an audience or a market? What kinds of strategies are successful media entrepreneurs & outlets using, & how can you adapt them for your business?
