What is acet?
The global packaging industry is facing the biggest disruption since the invention of plastics. The last 50 years has been spent optimising for a "take, make & dispose" linear economy, extracting raw materials at the lowest cost, designing throw-away products & burying our problems in landfill sites. Today the situation has become dire, we now produce 1 million plastic bottles per minute, 91% of which are not recycled (that's 2.5 million tonnes of plastic packaging waste in the UK alone).
The future will look very different. A new wave of legislation across UK & EU is making single use packaging more expensive for brands & consumer demand for re-use is finally shifting the retail landscape. The future of packaging is reusable & circular.
Acet is the connected circular supply chain for packaging, we are an infrastructure layer that powers brands & retailers to sell in reusable packaging for the same price as single use. We focus on packaging cleaning, building cleaning technology that is super energy, water & space efficient & installing it in a network of hubs within the supply chains of the biggest retailers. Our locations allow us to dramatically reduce shipping of used packaging, achieving carbon & cost savings that far surpass all alternatives.
What's the role?
We're looking for a Head of Operations to setup our first packaging cleaning hub & start delivering our service for our launch partners (a series of beverage, personal care & home care brands). We've scoped a rough process, tested the cleaning process at lab scale but there is much that needs your expertise, ranging from process design, hardware selection & installation, quality standards & checks to automation & process optimisation roadmap.
This is your opportunity to join a start-up that is making reusable packaging truly compete with single use. Together we'll disrupting the future of packaging through creating scalable & efficient packaging cleaning infrastructure.
Be the master of our cleaning process.
We've scoped out an initial process with an OEM partner, however there is much to learn & improve. We're looking for you to become our in-house expert on how we should be cleaning packaging in a way that maximises quality, energy & water efficiency, carbon & scalability, all at a cost that truly competes with single use packaging.
Build our cleaning hubs (including our first one!)
You will be responsible for installing & the running of our first cleaning hub. Our first hub will be in South London (close to our partners) but will act as a blueprint to be replicated at future hubs across the country. You will lead on anything involved in getting the cleaning hub operational. From setting up the process, designing the layout of the site, purchasing the hardware, installing them, production planning & starting to deliver our pilots.
. Be the operations innovator & automator.
It will be your role to identify ways in which we can improve our process, identifying ways to improve quality, output, efficiency & profitability of our hubs. Today there is a lot that we don't know about our cleaning process, we are looking for a creative & innovative thinker to help us learn & improve.
Responsible for quality & safety standards.
You will be responsible for ensuring we're always hitting the quality standards that our brands expect. We are operating in a market where standards are not clearly defined, you will also be responsible for setting them.
You'll help the Founder to put the correct safety protocols in place to ensure the cleaning hub is a safe place to work.
Lead operations team & strategy.
You'll identify the team that you need to deliver operations, lead the recruitment & the day to day management of the team.
