The opportunity:

As a Network Senior Trade Lane Associate, you will be an integral member of the team, a process expert, & a developing subject-matter-expert on a specific trade within your region. You will execute & oversee the end-to-end procurement, solution design, rate setting, bill auditing, & implementation cycles for your geographys imports & exports. A Senior Trade Lane Associate will act as the right-hand person to a Trade Lane Manager, developing an expertise on the local market, growing the business in the region, & leading strategies to drive profitability. Additionally, you will ensure high quality & timely delivery of solutions, anticipate & proactively mitigate challenges, & take the lead on implementation of cross-functional projects to improve business performance.

You Will:

Create, promote, & oversee the delivery of the best end-to-end solutions for Flexport customers 

  • Execute & oversee impeccable end-to-end procurement, solution design, rate setting, & implementation cycles for your geography
  • Acquire & maintain a deep understanding of best-in-class market offerings & customer requirements for your geography
  • Leveraging local market knowledge, think outside-the-box to create creative procurement & pricing solutions
  • Procure rates for non-routine customer requests within our network of vendors (carriers & partners) & ensure they are clearly recorded & available in cost & sell databases (ie Procurement Database, Marketplace)
  • Partner with Client Solutions Teams to understand unique customer requirements, collaborate on how to fulfill them, & execute the strategy
  • Liaise with Account Solutions to design solutions & recommend pricing strategies

Partner with Client Solutions to resolve Air/OCS issues, requests, or questions & provide enablement & support for sales

  • Ensure resolution of all escalations involving your geography raised by Client Solution Teams as quickly as possible, with an eye for mitigating future escalations of the same nature; exercise good judgment on when to further escalate
  • Manage geographic-specific group emails, Slacks, & offer support wherever possible
  • Support the Trade Lane Manager in providing market insights & empowering Client Solutions to sell out of your geography; help drive the go-to-market commercial strategy
  • Be vigilant of market conditions & provide monthly & quarterly updates to Demand as needed

Ensure high quality execution of day-to-day tasks & adherence to SLAs for the trade

  • Continually monitor & proactively make plans to improve all internal performance metrics, such as quote response time, cost/sell database population & integrity, bill audits, dispute execution for the specific trade
  • Report opportunities & strategies for improvement to TLSM; lead & implement those initiatives

Identify & lead initiatives to increase growth & profitability for the region

  • Propose strategies to help steer trade lane progress with the manager
  • Support the Trade Lane Manager in executing the strategies to drive volume & net revenue growth targets for the region
  • Consult with Client Solutions to price fairly & competitively & avoid revenue leakage/missed charges
  • Proactively follow-up on sizable lost pricing requests & new opportunities
  • Make independent decisions on pricing & solution design for small & mid-sized opportunities

Develop, maintain, & strengthen external vendor relationships

  • Interface with external vendors for sizable or complex opportunities regarding rate procurement, audits, or strategy
  • Set up reporting structures to measure performance of vendors & subcontractor (ie operational performance, procurement strength, etc)
  • Communicate & implement performance improvement initiatives within the team to improve quality & meet targets
  • Assist the Trade Lane Manager in developing & maintaining excellent relationships with external vendors, ensuring that Flexport is a quality partners for the airlines & that airlines are delivering the services purchased by Flexport
  • Set up reporting to measure performance of our partners (operational performance, procurement strength, etc)
  • Develop local market knowledge & maintain a pulse on the market regarding costs, capacity, & rate trends

Identify areas for process improvements & contribute to future automation designs; lead strategic projects to drive the business forward

  • Lead transformation projects in collaboration with other departments & consistently deliver on time with targets achieved
  • Demonstrate full mastery all Flexport processes, internal tools, & databases for maintaining buy & sell rates
  • Contribute meaningfully to the design & development of new tools to automate workflows
  • Constantly drive improvements to our service & rate offerings vs. competitors
  • Embody a can-do attitude at all times

You should have: 

  • BA/BS & 3-5 year(s) of related work experience
  • Knowledge of product & technology within the industry
  • Experience with regards to imports and/or exports from a sales, operational or procurement perspective. 
  • Experience building & maintaining relationships & partnerships with vendors
  • Analytical skills & metric / data based approach to solving problems
  • Strong analytical background & knowledge of analytical tools (Excel, etc)
  • Strategic vision & ground floor execution
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, & organizational skills
