7:00PM - 8:30PM - "Humanizing Smart Clothing & Super-Human Intelligence"

As technology becomes ubiquitously integrated into the world around us, it brings with it ever more numerous channels of data. While these data streams are increasing exponentially, the ability of the human brain to process information remains relatively flat, creating a growing mismatch between the vast streams/stores of data & the human ability to effectively utilize that data. One of the most critical challenges toward humanizing machine interactions & interfaces in the 21st century will be using AI to process & prioritize this fire hose of information in a highly contextualized way to deliver exactly the information you want when you want it. The cornerstone of this contextualization will be sensors integrated into our clothing & devices that permit meaningful insight into our physical as well as mental & emotional context that effectively gives us super-human powers to process information & make decisions.

This discussion will focus on how sensors integrated into our clothing can help us bridge the information/processing gap & what opportunities & challenges remain in the domains of materials science, algorithms & ethics.

Sean Montgomery is the founder of Connected Future Labs, a New York City based R&D engineering company that specializes in bringing technology out of the lab & into the real world. Since finishing his Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Sean has lead teams developing a number of products in wearable technology & affective computing. He is currently the head of R&D at the wearable AI company, SUPA, previously head of hardware at Ringly, & has developed several wearable & non-wearable products utilizing embedded biosensors combined with machine learning algorithms to detect changing physical & psychophysiological states. Sean has taught courses & workshops at MIT, NYU, & Hunter College & regularly shows new-media art work around the world that interrogates the human condition & our changing relationship to the physical & metaphysical world.
