Want to learn to code, but not sure where to start? Join us for an introductory deep-dive into full-stack web development and learn to build a basic blog!
This course will meet on Thursday October 20, October 27, November 3, an November 10 from 6:30 to 9 pm. Each class is consecutive and will build on material covered in the previous workshop. Attendance at all sessions is required.
In this month-long, beginner-friendly workshop you will learn the basics of HTML, CSS, Ruby and JavaScript and how they work together to create fully functioning websites. You will get a full introduction to the building block of every website: HTML (the content of a site) and CSS (used to style websites including colors and fonts).
You will also learn basic Ruby, a language used on servers in backend web development (i.e., the stuff that goes on between entering a URL and getting a web page back) and JavaScript, the language that makes the web interactive. In this month-long, once a week workshop you will create a basic web page and develop an understanding of the fundamentals of programming.
This workshop is open to beginners with no prior coding experience.
Meet your teacherJulianna Rusakiewicz:
Actor turned designer turned developer, I am a bootcamp graduate trying to make my way in an ever-changing and growing field. I grew up in New England and became an adult in New York City, so I yearn for the city and the woods. I primarily develop in Ruby on Rails and AngualrJS, though I am often asked to update Wordpress sites. After 15 years in the Theater scene, I accepted a position at a creative agency in Midtown Manhattan. In addition to developing and teaching, I am working towards my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification. I am constantly learning and trying new things!
Prerequisites and Preparation:
Please bring your own laptop (Mac, PC or Chromebook).
Please download and install Sublime Text (Hint: the download button is on the home page). Light snacks will be provided.
This event is open to adult (18+) beginners and is an introduction to concepts covered more deeply in Dev Bootcamp's immersive web development program.
