Job Description

Visa Inc is looking for a dynamic individual to join our team as a Sr. Release Engineer. As a member of the Release Engineering team in our Austin office, the Sr. Release Engineer will be ensuring reproducibility, auditability & traceability of all deliverable. The team maintains the systems & owns related processes to ensure high quality of delivery standards. The Sr. Release & Configuration Management Engineer will handle the daily responsibilities supporting the release needs of agile scrum teams. These tasks include configuration identification, change management, build & release management, version control, & source code auditing/reporting, environment support & troubleshooting. The Sr. Release Engineer will establish working relationships with one or more teams, providing assistance through the development cycle for any required changes to the build/release/version-control processes required to get a product released into test & production environments.

Cross-functional team coordination & communications skills are essential.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Handle the daily responsibilities of supporting the build & release needs of agile scrum teams
  • Assist in scheduling & implementing changes to the build / release / version-control processes required to enforce & apply build & release engineering best practices
  • Provide guidance to cross-team & team members in release best practices & procedures
  • Support all pre-production, managed environments for middleware services & applications
  • Work with cross functional, geographically distributed teams to provide 24X7 deployment support across multiple non-production environments
  • Responsible for deploying code & other proactive maintenance activities to keep the services up & running
  • Responsible for owning a specific deployment problems & provide active coordination between various groups including internal & external vendor support groups in resolving a specific problem
  • Responsible for working with Security, Operations, Development Operations, & other teams to understand changes to the existing production environment on an ongoing basis & for environment support
  • Participate & determine root cause for service failure & support escalation
  • Provide appropriate feedback to leads about the progress & timeline related to specific deployment problem
  • Maintain & suggest improvements to the simple deployment scripts & tools
  • Participate in the decision making of success or failure of applications systems to be deployed in production
  • Champion & Evangelize the vision for the CM & Release Strategy
  • Update documentation that communicates standards & best practices of the release engineering team
  • Implement metrics, Success Factors & Key Performance Indicators for the process & the team
Qualifications

3years of industry experience overall with at least 2+ years of experience in DEVOPS or System Engineering

  • Solid exposure in Docker containers technology
  • Build & troubleshoot build issues in java applications
  • Exposure to CHEF (preferable)
  • Linux & Shell Scripting & Automation
  • Advance knowledge with one or more build management tools (Anthill, BuildForge,
  • CruiseControl, Bamboo, Hudson, etc.)
  • Experience in deployment management tool - Jenkins, both in setup & support is highly desired
  • Expert knowledge of CM concepts (codelines, branching, merging, integration, versioning, etc.)
  • Experience with structured build files/tools (ant, Maven)Experience with a scripting language (Perl, Python, bash)
  • Advance knowledge & experience with Linux & UNIX
  • Should have working experience with monitoring tools like OPPNET and/or SPLUNK, or any other monitoring tools/processes
  • Experience in working with Oracle and/or MySQL DB's
  • Experience with Java web environments (Websphere, WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat (Must))
  • Experience with multiple software version control systems (GIT(Must), Subversion, ClearCase,Perforce, etc.)
  • Experience with Change Management tools (Jira, ClearQuest, etc.)
  • Good attention to detail, someone who takes ownership & pride in all work
  • Good written & oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with & manage distributed teams
  • Passion for quality in CM processes
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with continuously changing priorities
  • Ability to move forward given ambiguous conditions
