Were looking for a freelance Email Marketing Coordinator to join the Thrillist Audience Development team within Group Nine Media! As a member of the Audience Development team, youll own day-to-day execution of email sends via Campaign Monitor, organize & maintain Thrillists newsletter calendar. This role will also analyze & report on performance, create & implement strategies (segmentation, triggers, flows, A/B tests) to improve KPIs. The Email Marketing Coordinator will also work cross-functionally to align email strategy with Editorial, Creative & Product teams, as well as email copywriting. You should be comfortable with implementing email traffic tactics, leveraging testing strategies, insights from within & outside the company, data, & competitive research, while maintaining Thrillists editorial tone, voice & integrity.

The ideal candidate is someone passionate about travel, food, entertainment & storytelling. Youll report to Thrillists Audience Development Director. 


  • Perform day-to-day operational email marketing activities including, but not limited to, building the newsletter, writing subject lines, requesting creative, scheduling, A/B testing time or subject line, QA, & deployment of one-time & automated campaigns
  • Managing email calendar to ensure newsletter are tested, approved, & scheduled in a timely manner
  • Maintain tracking documentation of every newsletter franchise (goals, content calendar, segmentation, feedback, approvals, etc.)
  • Create & optimize newsletter subject lines & request creative visuals in response to timely data trends & performance
  • Managing existing trigger programs (welcome, re-engagement, engagement) & building additional programs to support user lifecycle management 
  • Monitor & track key email marketing metrics including delivery, open rates, click rates, conversion, opt-out, audience behavior & segmentation analysis
  • Collaborate with Social & SEO stakeholders to identify email acquisition opportunities
  • Follow email marketing best practices including strategies for onboarding, re-engagement, personalization, audience segmentation, etc.
  • Share wins & relevant performance data with teams


  • To be successful in this role, youll need to have a deep passion for email marketing, stay abreast of new opportunities in the industry, & be a strategic thinker 
  • Ability to work independently, quickly, thrive in a fast-paced & deadline-driven environment 


  • 1+ years experience in email marketing preferably agency or digital/editorial publishing
  • Excellent understanding of email execution concept, optimization & metrics; deliverability; best practices
  • Knowledge in email compliance & privacy legislation
  • Excellent writing & communication skills
  • Experience with Sailthru, Campaign Monitor or similar ESP platforms is required
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in remote locations
  • Experience with Google Analytics is preferred
  • Deep understanding of audience behavior, testing & engagement strategies, what makes people share things on various distribution platforms
  • Positive team player & an enthusiastic work ethic 
  • Excellent organizational skills, focus & attention to detail
  • Established ability to synthesize & communicate quickly
