Description
You've heard the term "API," an application programming interface that lets software talk to other software. With an API, people can create programs, tools, applications and graphics powered by your data.

Creating an useful API involves planning, architecture and good communication in-house and with the end users. So just how do you do all that?

On May 21, API developers, engineers and evangelists from Bitly, Pivotal Labs, Sunlight Labs and Tumblr will join Hacks/Hackers NYC at The Hatchery to share what they know about creating, designing, documenting and maintaining APIs.

Speakers include:

• Matt Lemay (@mattlemay), platform manager, Bitly

• Robbie Clutton (@robb1e), software engineer, Pivotal Labs

• Eric Mill (@konklone), developer, Sunlight Labs

• Derek Gottfrid (@derekg), CTO, and John Bunting (@codingjester), engineer and API Lead, Tumblr

To attend this informative session on APIs, RSVP today ($10, payable in advance) to Hacks/Hackers NYC — this will help cover food and drinks. If the $10 fee is beyond your budget, please email nyc[at]hackshackers[dot]com and we'll work things out with you.

Schedule:

6:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.: Doors and dinner

7:00 p.m.: Presentations and Q&A

~8:15 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.: Networking and socializing

We need your help!

Volunteer to help check people in (it's a great way to meet everyone), photograph or blog the event by emailing us at nyc[at]hackshackers[dot]com. (If you want to blog, this is a fairly technical presentation, so you must know the terminology and general concepts.)

Have an idea for future Hacks/Hackers topics, speakers and events that meet the at the intersection journalism, technology and innovation? Let us know at j.mp/hhnycInput.

We hope to see you May 21!
