The Director of Software Development, Infrastructure Operations serves as the Development Lead for the group that is responsible for Appian's internal engineering infrastructure, including all the tools we use to manage our entire SDLC, from planning to development, & all the way to releasing the software into the customers hands. In close partnership with the Strategy Lead, the Development Lead runs the team taking ownership of staffing, execution, delivery, operations. The goal is to create an innovative & learning organization, develop top talent, & drive technical & operational excellence.

To be successful in this role, you need: 

  • A strong understanding of CI/CD pipeline & software development process.
  • Experience designing & implementing tools & services to facilitate engineering development with a modern infrastructure.
  • Care personally about mentoring & supporting managers & squad coaches to ensure smooth team operations.
  • Collaborative skills in order to understand our internal customer needs so that the product direction is best aligned for success

Some of the tools & resources we will equip you with include: 

  • An on-boarding program that will provide hands-on experience with our platform, & the processes & technologies we use in the Engineering department.
  • Our team works primarily with Python, Java, AWS, Terraform, Git, bash; while also having the autonomy to use other technologies as needed to accomplish our goals more effectively.
  • Personal Indie Time (dedicated time to build whatever you want with whomever you want) & annual hackathons that provide opportunities for growth & leadership, which are activities that inspire others & get creative juices flowing.

Basic qualifications:

  • B.S. in Computer Science or related field, advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years in software development with 4+ years as a manager; experience as a ScrumMaster or agile coach strongly recommended
  • Manage full lifecycle of staffing: internships, recruiting, onboarding, continuing education, promotions, transfers, or offboarding.
  • Build & promote aligned, motivated, & autonomous teams.
