The Media & Production Technology department supports production & post-production systems across Vox Media networks & businesses. There are countless dynamic & exciting audio & video productions occurring every day in our facilities, & the Media & Production Technology teams develop & manage the many systems that support this work. The Media & Production Technology team is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, & highly collaborative Director of Post-Production Operations. Our ideal candidate is intellectually nimble, emotionally intelligent, business-minded, budget conscious, & fluent in a broad range of advanced post-production technologies.
What youll do:
Reporting to the Head of Media & Production Technology, youll oversee the entire portfolio of post-production video & podcasting technology & operations.
Closely track emerging industry & technology trends to identify new opportunities for improved automation, asset tracking & streamlining.
Conduct ongoing exploratory dialogs with cross-departmental leadership to determine current post-production technology needs & future ambitions.
Work directly with internal creative teams to ensure an optimized workflow. Participate in/lead technical discussions on architecture, networking, & system design. Develop/execute actionable plans to meet tech & ops requirements across multiple distinct content creation environments.
Deliver & document post-production improvements in support of growth as well as ensure all video & podcasting post-production workflows are optimized for multi-platform delivery including ingest, transcode, storage, editing & customization, processing, & quality assessment.
Work closely with IT to ensure uptime availability, manage & support our storage solutions such as SAN, NAS, & AWS S3.
Partner with IT to configure & document vantage workflows to scale media processing & production.
Work with media management & archive team members to develop & maintain a structured MAM database with accurately cataloged assets using industry-standard metadata schemas.
Manage the standardization of post-production operations across networks & contribute to strategic planning meetings for technology investment. Lead strategic planning & execution for rollouts of post-production technology to teams across multiple networks.
Regularly report on the state of video & podcast operations to senior leadership for constructive feedback & cross-departmental goal alignment.
Escalation point & key contact for resolution of high priority issues.
Foster & maintain strong vendor & external stakeholder relationships with an emphasis on creating robust & mutually beneficial feedback loops that drive technology innovations.
Create a positive & highly supportive team environment through performance feedback, educational programming & training, & mentorship discussions.
What youll bring:
At least 10 years experience in digital production, with significant experience as a post-production supervisor, manager, director or equivalent, including delegation, performance management, & coaching/career development.
Strong technical abilities, an eye for detail, & an instinct for producing efficient, automated, & scalable processes in a dynamic work environment.
A deep understanding of media asset management & storage systems & media metadata management, their uses & workflows within media organizations, as well as a technical understanding of how different systems should be implemented & integrated.
Experience with shared storage technologies (SAN) & content delivery systems including FTP & File Catalyst.
A solid understanding of project management principles & experience managing multiple concurrent projects.
A love of learning & a willingness to continue learning to ensure continuous elevation of the post-production environments our content creation teams rely on.
Experience with creating documentation of post-production systems & training/educating others in the use of those systems.
Experience with Cloudian, AWS Cloud Services, and/or Evolphin.
