The Strategy & Business Operations team

The mission of the Strategy & Business Operations team is to help GoCardless make high-quality decisions & to translate these decisions into action.

As a team, our work tends to be project-based & wide-ranging. Recent priorities have included designing & implementing a new go-to-market org structure, defining our 3-year strategy, & launching a new pricing model for our merchants (among many other projects). In each case, the team has owned the analysis & then worked closely with key stakeholders (CEO & Management) to form recommendations as well as to kick off & oversee the delivery cross-functionally.

The Business Operations & Strategy team is based in our London HQ.

The role

As a Strategy & Business Operations Associate, you will report into the Business Operations & Strategy Manager, working closely with the CEO & other members of the Exec team to drive some of GoCardless most critical decisions & deliver strategic initiatives in a fast & pragmatic way. 

In this role you will work predominantly on Defining the Strategy. The key focus is helping the business decide on & align around the most important strategic projects to deliver our mission & vision. High level responsibilities of the team include:

  • Working with exec team to define the vision & long-term strategy

  • Working with the exec team to define the yearly strategy (and owning the end to end process)

  • Defining the specific company objectives to focus on each quarter

  • Working on a range of other strategic pieces that are important to the CEO & exec team (e.g. go-to-market strategy)

Day-to-day activities are often undefined, but will include:

  • Owning specific standalone strategic problems that require framing & coordination across functions, including driving analysis & creating presentations

  • Supporting the Strategy & BizOps manager by owning the analysis that underpins our recommendations 

  • Supporting the Strategy & BizOps manager in coordinating the end-to-end process of defining the strategy

  • As needed, present the outcome of the work & facilitate the discussion with relevant Executives

Previous projects have been i.) defining our vision & 3 year strategy, ii.) developing a new prioritisation model to execute against our strategy, iii.) helping develop a new GTM strategy.

What we are looking for

  • 2-3 years of relevant strategy & operations experience (for example, as part of a top-tier consulting firm, investment bank, or high growth scale-up)

  • Structured thinker, with experience developing frameworks to tackle abstract & ambiguous problems

  • Ability to communicate clearly & confidently with senior stakeholders (verbal & written)

  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders

  • Highly motivated self-starter comfortable dealing with uncertainty 

  • Outstanding track record of professional & academic achievement

  • Strong team player with a bias for getting things done
