This role sits within a fun, supportive & hard-working Commercial & Corporate Legal Team, who manage commercial, corporate, employment, data protection & intellectual property legal matters. This Team is part of a larger Legal & Regulatory Division in Visa's Europe region (including, competition, UK regulatory, EU regulatory specialists), which has consistently had some of the highest engagement scores & prides itself on a creative, collaborative, can-do approach.
The Commercial & Corporate Legal Team works at the cutting edge of new payment technologies, innovation & the fintech industry in an increasingly regulated environment, which brings unique & novel challenges in the commercial/technology law space.
The particular position supports Visa's dynamic & exciting marketing & sponsorship teams, working to resolve legal issues relating to Visa's advertising, social & other media, whilst also helping to manage Visa's top tier sponsorship properties including FIFA & the Olympics. The role will also provide limited support to the privacy team.
Provide legal advice & support relating to Visa's advertising content across the Europe region.
Draft, review, negotiate & advise on contracts with Visa's creative agencies & other suppliers to the marketing, sponsorship & privacy functions.
Review & advise on Visa's websites & social media presence in the region & assist in the development of content & resolution of challenges.
Draft & negotiate contracts with sponsorship properties in the region & advise on activation of local & global properties, including client & cardholder promotions related to FIFA & the Olympics.
Advise on marketing (both direct & public media) & promotional activities in all countries within the region, using external counsel to assist where appropriate.
Advise on & negotiate rights clearances for web & promotional content.
Provide data privacy advice & support relating to matters such as client & supplier agreements, business innovation & digital product initiatives (such as mobile payments & data products), product development, licensing arrangements, the development of template contracts, & other general commercial matters.
Act as a subject matter expert for data protection keeping up to date with a number of identified areas of law & proactively logging all updates, reviewing & revising relevant policies & procedures, ensuring template material is updated where necessary & informing colleagues of the substantive changes.
Identify competition/anti-trust, data protection & other regulatory issues, & liaise when necessary with internal members of the Legal & Regulatory Division, and/or external counsel.
Identify the need for external legal advice & engage appropriate outside counsel on a range of legal issues across Visa's Europe region. Management of outside counsel, including budgets.
Work with other Visa departments across the globe to ensure contracts & advice accurately reflects business needs & policies as they develop.
Responsible for management of day-to-day legal queries & business deals, taking the lead on all relevant legal activities.
Manage, develop & maintain relationships to facilitate the effective delivery of legal advice & assistance.
Provide training, to identified business areas, on law, processes & policies.
Proactively contribute to the Legal & Regulatory Division's planning, cohesion, consistency in advice, & the general efficiency & effectiveness of the division as a whole.
Qualified lawyer with previous experience in a commercial legal environment (ideally 7+ years PQE). We will consider candidates who have qualified in other jurisdictions.
Experience & knowledge of national & international payment systems
Demonstrable relevant experience at a recognised law firm & in-house environment.
Experienced in managing stakeholders across a global matrix environment
Strong academics & training, including legal drafting & negotiating, & relationship management.
Excellent written & oral communication skills along with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal & external stakeholders.
Ability to work in a team environment as well as on own initiative.
Ability to prioritise & manage a varied & busy workload.
Positive attitude, high level of integrity & intellectual curiosity.
Previous experience of working within a technology & digital legal environment.
Knowledge of fintech & payments industry (and applicable regulation).
Previous experience of cross-border & multi-jurisdictional contracts.
